Human spaceflight is something our country has been proud to be a part of for decades, but it is not a certainty. The thousands of jobs, spinoff industries, and inspiration is not a sure thing. Sustaining these jobs, economic impact and community pride requires constant vigilance. That is why for the last 25 years, Citizens for Space Exploration has been making the trip to Washington, D.C. We go to educate lawmakers about how space exploration affects us and our community, and we need your help doing it. Congress needs to understand that it’s not just astronauts and engineers that rely on NASA; it is our local small business owners, banks, and city governments that need that payroll flowing through our economy. More importantly, our educators and students need the inspiration provided by the wonder of human space exploration.
We can see that we have been successful in our efforts, evidenced by a slowly increasing NASA budget and calls from members of Congress to make NASA more consistent and stable. Last year, CSE took 89 travelers to Capitol Hill for 407 face to face meetings. This year we plan to do even more.
CSE will be making its 26th annual trip to Washington, D.C., this May. We would like to invite you on this year’s trip. Please consider joining us, if your schedule allows, or sending someone from your organization. If you or no one in your organization will be able to make the trip, please consider sponsoring one of our student travelers. These students’ passion for aerospace profoundly impacts our congressional representatives. A sponsorship of $1,000 per student is money well spent.
The schedule of events for the trip is as follows:
- Tuesday, May 23rd – Travelers Arrive; Briefing 6-8 PM
- Wednesday, May 24th – Meetings on the Hill; Congressional Reception 5:30-7:30 PM
- Thursday, May 25th – Meetings on the Hill
- Friday, May 26th – Travel Home
